The answer is as always, it depends, but it’s not impossible. Years ago, what we used to do is we used to say, “Well, SEO is an intermediate– to long-term strategy; you need to wait until you get results; you’re not always going to get results fast; you should invest this money for 12 months and forget about it.”
But, now we don’t say that anymore.
Why?
Websites that have been around for five to fifteen years have done nothing to improve their online visibility, in order to have an online authority. However, they have offline visibility with their brands.
If you did any kind of magazine insert, and let’s say; twenty magazines mentioned you, host you on their websites, and they have linked you back to your site, that means that you’re getting backing, which means some authority from them.
But if you never paid attention to SEO before, then you probably don’t realize you are actually doing SEO, or that you are getting backlink authority by doing offline PR or offline magazine placements.
We started seeing this often in the past 12 months or so. Someone comes to us, and says, “Hey, I have this website. I want to get results fast.”
What Do We Say in Response?
“It depends,” we say.
Well, the first thing we look for is their current authority; how long their site has been around, how many keywords they rank for, and the position in which they are currently ranking in.
If it’s a new site, we’re going to say, “Look, it’s going to take some time.”
But if it’s already an established site, we do see an opportunity for specific keywords to increase their visibility and again, it also depends on the competition as well.
So, what we do is break it down. First, we look at the content management system or the eCommerce system that you might be on. If you’re running a Weebly or a Squarespace or a Wix site, we have to migrate you to WordPress.
If you’re running an X-Cart or OpenCart or WooCommerce, depending on your structure, we have to move you to a legitimate cart like a BigCommerce, Shopify, Evolution. With technology, we can do all kinds of things with integrations, with content, with blog views.
Next, we look at your content. You might have ten thousand products in your eCommerce store, or you might have two off services in your B2B business page. But there’s no word content in there. You might have content, but it might not be optimized.
And as Joe stated, we look at your current standing. Now, let’s say you’re a dentist in Miami. If I type “dentist Miami” or “Miami dentist” onto Google Search, I will see where you land amidst the other websites.
If you’re nowhere to be found on the first 10 pages, then you most likely don’t have content. If your domain authority is ten or twelve on a scale of zero to one hundred, it’s going to be difficult to rank you at the top.
I’m going to say, “It’s going to take more than six months for me to give you any kind of visibility or authority.”
If you’re on page five, however, I’m like, “Aha, okay. This person has some authority, has some backlinks. This is not just marketing. Everything is integrated with technology. They got to look at your CMS, structure, index pages, and content.
If an SEO company does not have a copywriting department, then they don’t have content in their deliverables. Don’t work with them because it’s never going to improve your traffic.
What Else Did I Miss?
Well, you brought up dentists, right? Dentists in Miami. A lot of businesses are not utilizing Google My Business for localized search. We’ve seen huge gains in the local search visibility when just optimizing their Google My Business account. I would say that if you’re a local business, that’s number one right there. And you’ll definitely see some nice gains from that as well.
There are simple things that you could do that are indirectly related to SEO. These tactics could give you that short-term push. All business owners look for more engagement and activity.
These are the first few essential components that we look for in your site. Then we go back and we look at your authority. We investigate where we can get you mentions, brand mentions, and more backlinks in order to improve your online presence.
We research how we could put you on Forbes, Inc., Huffington Post, or Fortune magazine, to get you the visibility that you need in order for your business to increase. Then your authority increases, which leads you to rank for more terms. But it all has to do with the audience you are targeting. If we are not targeting the appropriate keywords, topics, or even the right services, you won’t get any visibility.
From a strategist’s standpoint, have we had any deals where we went to a client and we said, “Hey, you know what? You have a lot going on. You have done nothing with your content. We can generate significant results for you in the first 90 days.”
Have We Ever Done That?
Absolutely. Because we’ve seen the opportunity. Again, it comes down to their current standing and the competition. If we see that they’re just off by one page one or two, they have some authority and backlinks, but thin content.
We compare that to their competitors and how rival businesses perform. All we need to do is enhance the content, create more backlinks, and we know we’re going to see results.
This does not work for everybody though. It’s done on a per-client or per-case basis. But, it is possible to get significant short-term results from SEO depending on your domain, content, and what you have done so far.
Now, if you ask us, “Okay, what do you mean by ‘significant’?” We mean a 15- 20% increase in organic traffic. Over 50% increase in keyword breadth ranking; meaning if you used to rank for 2,000 keywords, if I see the opportunity in 90 days, I can rank you for 5,000 keywords. And all of those keywords are going to bring you traffic.
We’ve been able to get tens of thousands of additional traffic for some clients in a matter of just 90 days. It is absolutely possible.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]If You Were A Business Owner, And You Were Looking At Purchasing SEO, Considering Short Term Versus Long Term, Where Would You Pay Attention? What Would You Say To Me As A Marketing Company? What Would Your Expectations Be?
Being in this industry long enough I know how a business owner thinks, “When am I going to see an increase in revenue?
Just because we increase your visibility, doesn’t mean this will translate into revenue. It’s just a step further. Now, once we bring the traffic, we need to see if it converts.
You really need to ask, “Okay, once I see the traffic, when can we start to optimize to then see a return?” Because there’s going to be conversion optimization aspects that need to occur in between the increase in visibility and revenue.
We are a marketing company. I don’t have control over your sales department, salespeople who take orders over the phone, lead nurture funnel or CRM. I cannot be held responsible for your bottom-line revenue. All I can do is bring in the traffic.
Now we’re not just marketers: we run multiple businesses in eCommerce, in SAS, in retail, and in consulting. We know how the structure for sales needs to be. If you’re an eCommerce site, if your traffic increases if it’s targeted traffic, you’re going to see the results really quickly. But if you’re a B2B seller, there is going to be a lagging effect.
We promise increased activity and increased engagement. Going back to the original conversation, it is absolutely possible to get significant results in the first 90 days from SEO, but it has to be executed the right way, and opportunity needs to be there already.
