Plant the Future Case Study examines the advanced eCommerce development solutions that Optimum7 provided.
Plant the Future is a nature-inspired design firm and retailer that has the aim of connecting people with nature. The company has been recognized for its work in biophilic design/build firms around the world. It is also a botanical garden facility that creates an optimal living environment for your senses by using plants from many species. Plant the Future has been steadily growing locally or internationally.
Besides its physical store in Miami, FL, Plant the Future needed to enhance scalability on its eCommerce site. They felt that the old website didn’t reflect who they were and what their plant nursery had to offer. It also didn’t offer a great online shopping experience to the visitors, which is why it decided it was time for some changes. In 2017, Plant the Future found Optimum7 as they were looking for the best eCommerce agency in Florida.

Our main goal was to implement custom features. These features would help Plant the Future run business efficiently and increase profitability. Optimum7 addressed the unique needs of Plant the Future and brought together all custom features in comprehensive project scope. According to these specified requirements, Optimum7 would make improvements to this eCommerce business. These improvements included product page, shipping options, notifications, integrations and so.
Custom Programming
The Optimum7 team received the font style and size of the desired mossy graphics. Then we created a graphic font that mimics this natural pattern. So it’s easier for users to enter words before purchasing products and preview how it’s going to look.
Our developers added custom fields to the products, so the site has had local delivery, shipping, and pickup options on a per-product basis.
A major disadvantage of the site was that there was no way to know what date your order would be shipped. Optimum7 solved this by defining assembly dates and ETAs on a per-product basis. Owing to this, users are able to see lead times and order accordingly.
This feature would allow customers to get a reminder as often as desired. Optimum7 implemented an advanced notification feature. And set it as getting emails 1 week and 1 day before a product is ready to be shipped, delivered or picked up.
Plant the Future was using Lightspeed Retail POS to manage its in-store and online inventory. Optimum7 pushed all the part numbers and child products from Lightspeed to BigCommerce. Thanks to integrating Lightspeed Retail POS with BigCommerce, Plant the Future has automated the process and managed its in-store and online business as one.
In terms of the site’s visibility and SEO purposes, our team re-created all the products on BigCommerce, on the Plantthefuture.com WordPress site.
