We’ve seen huge results in terms of traffic and visibilities for very competitive terms.

I really like BigCommerce when it comes to SEO because it seems like their team internally really understands SEO. And a lot of the questions that as they were building out new functionalities and rolling out new functionalities, a lot of the questions that we had asked as marketers and SEOs, they really took into consideration and implemented a lot of these features onto their platform.

So for example, we know that content is extremely important when it comes to SEO and content marketing. And for eCommerce specifically, you’re going to have your blog, that’s standard. Every single eCommerce platform out there has one.

But now when it comes to driving that middle of the funnel traffic, we really want to focus on optimizing these product category pages. Now traditionally, a lot of these eCommerce stores give you one option to put a category description.

Now that category description by default is going to live above your product listings, which again, if you insert too much copy, too much text, it’s going to push your product listings really far down below the fold, which we know that makes for a poor user experience.

What BigCommerce has actually done in some of their more recent builds is they’ve actually built what’s called containers. Now some templates have containers, some templates don’t, typically the newer templates that are coming out now all have these containers, which now allow you to place the majority of that category description content that you’re going after some semantic terms as well as reinforcing your primary down below the product listings.

And with this strategy, I mean, we’ve seen huge results in terms of traffic and visibilities for very competitive terms. Just to give you an example, one of our clients that sells office furniture, right?

The title of this category, the title of this page is boardroom tables, right? We know that a semantic term for boardroom tables are conference room tables. So how are we going to inject content onto this page to also reinforce that semantic? We implemented the strategy on that category page by reinforcing that semantic term below the fold.

And now for both conference room tables and boardroom tables, this client is ranking on page one, right? Within positions one through four. I think one’s ranking position two.

The other one’s ranking position four, right? So again, very powerful in terms of SEO and content marketing. And that’s one thing from a functionality standpoint that I really love that BigCommerce did.
